Yesterday’s speech by the Queen at the State Opening of Parliament allowed us a first real look at how the coalition government is going to work and the type of policies they will be putting forward.

Election Night Part 3

Rochdale and ‘Bigotgate’ was a big deal to a lot of people. But apparently not to the people of Rochdale, who still returned a solid Labour majority. Surely this proves, without being patronising, that there is a core set of voters who cannot be sweet-talked round to the Tory agenda.

The final debate

For the final debate before the election next Thursday, the attention turned to matters of the economy. Clearly in this election, following the global banking crisis and recession, the public is looking for effective economic policy as the country struggles out of recession and begins to try and cut the hefty deficit.

The second debate of the UK elections took place last night with the focus, for the first 45 minutes at least, falling on international affairs.
